High potential and gifted education
At Middleton Grange Public School, we believe that every child has strengths to discover, develop and celebrate. Some students show advanced potential in areas such as academic learning, creativity, leadership or physical ability. Our role is to recognise these strengths early and provide opportunities that allow them to shine.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Middleton Grange Public School, teachers design learning that challenges students at their point of need. This may include:
- Open-ended tasks that encourage deeper thinking
- Flexible groupings and small-group workshops
- Enrichment and extension activities
- Independent and inquiry-based learning projects
Students are encouraged to take risks, share ideas, explore curiosity and think creatively. We want them to feel confident to lead, problem-solve and collaborate with others.
Every student is an individual so opportunities are flexible and diverse. Students can take part in a wide range of programs, clubs and opportunities, such as:
- Public speaking, debating and leadership roles
- Creative and Performing Arts, including dance, drama, music and visual arts events
- Sporting teams, gala days and representative pathways
- STEM and coding experiences in science and technology
- Competitions and enrichment workshops across the network and state
We work closely with families to nurture each child’s strengths, interests and wellbeing. Our focus is on helping children grow, feel proud of who they are, and become confident learners who are excited to take on new challenges.
Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.
- Students participate in opportunities such as Premier's Reading Challenge, Premier’s Spelling Bee, Pulse Alive and Festival of Choral Music.
- Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we help with entries, preparation and reflection so every experience feeds back into learning.
